Supa Dam

Supa Dam is built across Kalinadi (Kannada) or Kali river in state of Karnataka in India. The dam is situated(supa Ganeshgudidam) in Joida taluk of Uttara Kannada district. The power house at the foot of the dam has two electricity generators of fifty megawatt each. The electricity generated is supplied to different parts of Karnataka. The dam was built by Hindustan Steel Works Construction Limited (HSCL) and is now operated by Karnataka Power Corporation Limited. The power house was commissioned in 1985.

Supha Dam (Ganeshgudi Dam, Karnataka, India)is the second largest dam in the State. This 101 Mtrs high and 332 Mtrs long concrete gravity dam is built across the Kalinadi river in Joida Taluk of Uttara Kannada District. It has a catchment area of 1057 Sq.Kms and the live storage capacity is 145 Tmcft. (Thousand Million Cubic Feet). Three radial gates of size 15 x 10 Mtrs are provided to regulate the flood discharge. The reservoir has two saddle dams of length 705 Mtrs and 940 Mtrs.

Sunset point at Backwater:It’s just 5 km from chalet to reach backwaters where Kali water is  stored at the back of Supa dam.Make a trip to backwater in the evening to have memorable sunset beauty.

Syntheri  Rock

Syntheri  Rock is a 300ft tall monolithic granite located deep inside the thick Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary. With the Kaneri River gushing ferociously by its side, the Synteri Rock is a spectacular Sight. One can actually see the effect of erosion that has resulted in hollows on this rock. Thousands Of pigeons have made this rock their home in the innumerable nooks and crannies, and one can also See the hives of rock bees hanging precariously from the Kali Wilderness Camp. A jeep ride for about an hour followed by a walk through the scenic jungle will bring you to this incredibly beautiful sculpture of nature.

The Sintheri Rock is a granite monolith of colossal dimensions - about 300 feet high and 400 feet long.The huge rock, with its multi-coloured face, weathered over thousands of years, standing tall amidst the greenery of the surrounding forests, by itself presents a beautiful sight. Add to this a small and beautiful river cascading past along the bottom of the monolith and what we have is a bewitching combination of Natural beauty.The sight of it,especially immediately after end of the monsoon season, is a spectacle to behold, and is sure to remain etched in one's memory for a long time.

Shri Chennabasavanna Temple

Shri Chennabasavanna Temple Uluvi,

Ulavi Channabasaveshwara Temple is one of the important pilgrimage centers of Karnataka, especially for Lingayath community.

Ulavi Channabasaveshwara Temple is situated amid thick forest in a picturesque location of Western Ghats in Uttara Kannada (North Kanara) district. Thick forests here hold tiger, cheetah, elephant, sarang, cobra, and other wildlife.

The Samadhi of Channabasavanna, one of the most respected saints of the Lingayat faith lies here.In the 12th century, Channabasavanna traveled from Kalyana to Ulavi before he died. Very close to this holy Samadhi is the Akka Nagalambike cave named after Nagalambike, Channabasavanna's mother and Basavanna's sister.

Ulavi Caves

After visiting the peaceful Channabasavanna Sannidhi, one can proceed further to explore Ullavi’s caves that are close by. Akka Nagalambike, is a famous cave located near Channabasavanna Samidhi, which is named after Nagalambike, Channabasavanna's mother and Basavanna's sister.

Aakalu Gavi (Cow Cave)

There are many other caves to explore, they involve treks through Ulavi's dense forests amidst hills and trees. Ullavi's caves are known for their interesting rock formations. Each of these caves have a interesting tale relating to them.

The farthest of the caves is the Mahamane Gavi, eight kilometres away in a dense forest where Channabasavanna had meditated.

Closer to Ulavi are many other caves, the famous one being the Aakalu Gavi that looks like a cow. The limestone rock here is about 800 ft tall and the cave is situated about 50 ft above the ground. A ladder embedded into the rock takes one to a ledge and after carefully scaling it, one has to crawl through the narrow mouth of the cave.

Vibhoothi Mantapa

The other caves include the Vibhoothi Mantapa which is at the ground level with a fairly large entrance. The attraction here is a conical grey rock with a smear of  limestone dust revered and used as vibhoothi (sacred ash).

The cave of Panchalingeshwara Cave(Panchalinga Cave, Panchalinga Guhe) is a deviation from the main trail, a kilometre into the forest, and has steep steps.

Other Attractions

On the way back to Ulavi is a natural spring called Haralayyana Chilumi. This water is believed to be sacred.

Kodathalli Falls

Ulavi is not just about caves alone. At a couple of places there are ruins of old fortresses though their history and importance are not well documented. However, the waterfalls tucked away in the jungle about five kms from the town is a must-visit. The Channabasava Jalapatha, also called Kodathalli falls is a 50-ft drop from a stream. The sound of the falls in the middle of the pristine forest cover is truly refreshing.
