Kavadi Kere

Kavadi Kere
Kavadi Kere(Kavadi Lake) beautiful lake spread over 62 acres shines like glass reflecting the blue sky and the hills all around it.  The floating dried leaves along with lily leaves creates a lovely pattern over it.  Beside the lake is the ancient temple dedicated to goddess Kavadiamma/Durgadevi.  The quietness and the beauty surrounding the lake is an unforgettable experience.   It is no wonder that birds like the river Lapwing, black and red crested Bulbul gleefully fly and roam here.  Giant sized butterflies flutter around stopping to lap up the nectar from the various colored wild flowers blooming all around.  Different types of wild Orchids clutching on to trees displays the richness of the hilly forests.
An interesting legend is associated with this place, it says that when Pandavas during their exile were passing through this part of the forest, Draupadi, wife of the Pandavas felt very thirsty and asked Bheema (one of the Pandava brothers) to fetch some water.  Bheema searched far and wide for water but could not find any.  He prayed to goddess Durga and she blessed him with enough strength to get water from river Ganga.  Bheema then brought innumerable pots of water from Ganga to form a lake.  The goddess was pleased and asked Bheema to install her idol next to the lake.  Till date the lake has never ever dried up even during harsh summers.
